Neurological Balance with Kinesiology: Michael McCloskey’s Approach

Last Updated on 22 August 2024 by Brisbane Livewell Clinic

Kinesiology is a brilliant alternative healthcare modality that gets straight to the core of the problem and balances all the neurological glitches in the system and restores overall balance and it is great for all ages.

My main focus and area of expertise are identifying and balancing neurological glitches within the gait system. Very simply the gait system is the neurological complex that makes our arms and legs move together in an organised way. When there is a neurological glitch we are very often locked into a specific gait or stance – this may be defensive, we may be frozen into it or we may be running away from something or sometimes it is something that we have chosen. This stance often manifests as muscle tightness in the shoulders. Sometimes we have this glitch all the time, at other times we have it in relation to issues, goals and situations we find ourselves in. It reminds me of the words in Dido”s song There are no white flags upon this ship, I will not surrender, I will go down with this ship. With the help of Kinesiology, we can change this. By removing a glitch at a neurological level we allow our physical arms and legs to flow freely and thus freeing ourselves up mentally and emotionally so that we can move forward with grace and ease towards what we want to achieve. This gives us back choice so that we can go back into a defensive stance if we want to. However, we can also now choose to move differently without being stuck maybe and quite profoundly so, even in the opposite direction.

Recently I have had clients that have suffered from concussions. The most recent one was a male that had a fall in his driveway and slipped backwards and hit his head. This happened several months prior to him presenting in my clinic. He also has a history of playing football and had suffered some hard knocks and some compression fractures in his spine as a result of injuries during his adolescence. So it was difficult to determine whether the deficits that we found were from the past or from his more recent fall. We identified a gait issue along with an atlanto-occipital problem compounded by a jammed sphenoid. After balancing the atlas, sphenoid, dural torque and resetting his cloacal (pelvic centering) reflexes, I then proceeded to balance his Vestibular system. I was almost at the end of this process and I had my gloved finger in his mouth stimulating his lateral pterygoid muscles saying “keep your eyes open and moving your eyes right, left, up and down, closing your eyes and moving your eyes right, left, up and down, it is dark, open your eyes” and guess what? His eyes did not open as he had fallen asleep on my table just at the point when we had reset many of his survival systems and his parasympathetic nervous system kicked in, allowing him to go into healing and recovery mode. My client was very athletic and had great muscle tone, however, his muscles were not working neurologically. He could still function but it was hard work and he would often feel exhausted. The day after our treatment he went on a long competitive bike ride (about 230Km). He performed really well. He told me that there were a group of other riders that he usually struggled to keep up with, however on this occasion he managed to keep them at bay for about 50 Km where they could not even get close to him. On this ride, instead of having to use brute muscle strength to move, he had muscle integrity restored and the ride became more effortless. I had one further Kinesiology session with him 2 weeks later, the day before he was going on a 268Km ride that included hills and this ride got the better of him last year. I had some feedback from him after the ride and he performed really well and was very pleased.

Another of my concussion clients had a fall backwards whilst playing ice hockey. For several weeks afterwards, he was really struggling and finding it hard to focus, feeling exhausted all the time and then began to experience panic attacks He was struggling at work and needed to take time off. I did a series of Kinesiology interventions spaced about 2 weeks apart for a couple of months. The result was quite profound. My client is now able to focus, attend meetings and functions with background noises without having panic attacks and is back working functioning as well or maybe even better than he was prior to my intervention.
